A shipwreck at night
Seattle Times reader Jeff Abel’s photo of a shipwreck on the Oregon coast.
Photographer: Jeff Abel, Seattle
Photo taken: Fort Stevens State Park, Ore., June 1
Photographer's description: "I traveled to the Peter Iredale shipwreck in the hopes of getting some photos with the wreck at night under the stars. When thick clouds appeared and blocked the stars, I decided to improvise, using a 5,000 lumen spotlight to illuminate the ship from the inside just as the tide line reached it (for reflectivity of the water). Taken with a Nikon D800 & 16-35mm lens at a 30-second exposure. "
Expert says: "Great improvisation from the photographer! I love the colors that pop because of the slow exposure and having that spotlight in there to illuminate the shipwreck and its nooks is refreshingly unique. Great job waiting for that water to come in so there would be those lines of light reflected a bit more. "
