Photographer: Tom Guffey, Marysville

Photo taken: March 8, Seattle Kennel Club dog show Agility Ring

Photographer's description: “I attended Seattle’s annual dog show. I tend to spend most of the day watching agility, with the dog and its owner acting as one. It’s amazing just how the two of them seem to anticipate each other’s moves in the ring. Taken with Canon MKIV with a 70-200mm lens, F/2.8 IS at 200 mm, F3.2, at 1/1000 of a second.”

Expert says: “The photographer did a great job in capturing the agility of this dog at a great moment. This is not unlike a sports action photo where your job is to capture ‘peak action,’ which can be hard to do if something happens very quickly. If you know something is going to repeatedly happen, like jumping over this hurdle, then setting up shop there to continuously try to get ‘the shot’ is a great strategy. Also, good lens choice and application to blur out the distracting background.”
