Forum Thursday for Seattle City Council, mayoral candidates

Posted by Beth Kaiman

OneAmerica and the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR) will sponsor a forum Thursday night (Oct. 8) for candidates for Seattle mayor and City Council.

The event will run from 6 to 8 p.m. at NewHolly Gathering Hall, 7054 32nd Ave South.

Members of Seattle's immigrant and refugee communities plan to ask the candidates about issues such as immigrant rights, child and adult education, gang violence, and budget cuts to social services and libraries. Questions from the groups sponsoring the forum will come first, then questions from the community.

Organizers said Wednesday that all City Council candidates except Council President Richard Conlin plan to attend.

Mayoral candidates Mike McGinn and Joe Mallahan will be there. Organizers say Mallahan will arrive at 7:15 pm.
