McGinn appoints Anne Levinson to be new OPA auditor

Posted by Emily Heffter

Mayor Mike McGinn appointed former Municipal Court Judge Anne Levinson to be the new civilian auditor for the police oversight board.

The Office of Professional Accountability, of OPA, is a three-part police oversight office that reviews complaints and investigations of misconduct in the police department. Besides an independent civilian auditor, there is an OPA civilian director and an OPA Review Board.

Levinson replaces Michael Spearman, who served in the role only briefly before he was appointed to the Court of Appeals.

Levinson was a Seattle Municipal Court judge from 1999 to 2001 and was deputy mayor under former Mayor Norm Rice. She also served as legal counsel in both the Rice and Charley Royer mayoral administrations. She recently served on the Police Chief Search Committee.

The City Council will have to confirm her appointment.
