Obama to visit Seattle to discuss the economy, raise money for Murray

Posted by Kyung M. Song

WASHINGTON -- President Obama will make his first presidential stop in Seattle in August to talk about the economy -- and to headline a fundraiser for Sen. Patty Murray.

Obama is scheduled to visit the Seattle area in mid August, according to a White House official who asked to remain unnamed. While in town, Obama also will appear at a fundraising event on Aug. 17 for Murray, who is facing a stiff challenge from Republican Dino Rossi.

Obama visited Seattle as a presidential candidate, but the upcoming trip would be his first to the Seattle area since his election. The trip is part of Obama's recent forays around the country to address jobs and economy before voters.

Julie Edwards, Murray's campaign spokeswoman, would not discuss the time and venue for the fundraiser, except to say, "we're very excited to have the president come to Washington."
