McGinn to lead China delegation

Mayor Mike McGinn will lead a 52-person trade delegation next week to Chongqing, China, one of Seattle's sister cities.

The mission will focus on green-building technologies and education. The trip -- McGinn's first abroad as mayor -- is being funded by the Trade Development Alliance and the city of Chongqing.

Other participants include Boeing and Microsoft executives and executives from regional tech companies. Several educators, including Karen Kodama, international education administrator for Seattle Public Schools, will join the delegation. Kodama and principals from Seattle's two international schools visited Chongqing in 2010. Two principals from sister schools in Chongqing visited Seattle last year and will do so again this year.

Several representatives of the Seattle Chinese Garden at South Seattle Community College will also participate. Chongqing gave $1.2 million to help build the garden, one of the largest outside of China, according to the mayor's office.
