Tommy Bahama Bar to open at Yankee Stadium

Seattle company sees Yankee Stadium bar as a one-of-a-kind opportunity.

Seattle Times business reporter

Seattle-based Tommy Bahama is bringing its marlin logo to the new Yankee Stadium on Thursday when Major League Baseball's most famous franchise hosts its season home opener against Cleveland.

Under a two-year licensing deal, New York's Yankee Stadium will operate a Tommy Bahama Bar near the main entrance.

A wholly-owned subsidiary of Oxford Industries in Atlanta, Tommy Bahama has about 80 U.S. stores where it sells clothing and swimwear. Of those, 12 include a Tommy Bahama restaurant and bar.

The new bar at Yankee Stadium marks its first — and likely its last — foray into sports venues, said Doug Wood, president and chief operating officer of Tommy Bahama.

"You could be a huge Mariner fan — which I am — and still understand, hey, Yankee Stadium holds a special place with baseball fans," Wood said. "There's nothing else like it."

Tommy Bahama will sell a new line of baseball-inspired shirts at Yankee Stadium, as well as on its Web site.
