Viral video of the day: Is iPhone-driven music vid for real?

Posted by Bob Payne

A video created by Brooklyn, N.Y.'s Atomic Tom shows the band performing an original song on a New York subway train with the help of iPhone instrument apps. While it seems innovative and as hip as hip gets these days, some commenters aren't buying it.

Here's the video:

Commenters on Boing Boing and YouTube are skeptical of several aspects:
- The audio is pretty good for something recorded in a rocking subway car.
- Did they have an amp in there?
- The girl behind them sings along at some point, making it likely she's with the band. Which would point to the whole thing being staged.

Is the whole thing a gimmick to sell a CD? Sure.

But if you put all that aside for a minute, it's a pretty cool video. And the thought of being able to replace a band's instruments with iPhones is fascinating.

What's your take?
