Canada's women's hockey team makes non-apology apology

Posted by Ron Judd

It's one thing to be excited, even overcome, win you win a medal. It's another to push it too far by imbibing on the field of play, as Canada's women's hockey team did last night after beating Team USA, 2-0.

At least that's the way it's playing in some of the press this morning. I didn't see the celebration myself. My colleague Bob Condotta did and blogged about it here and here, and thought it was harmless.

A Canadian story is here . Make your own call.

I lean toward the it's-all-overblown side. These women were under tremendous pressure to win the gold. Some of us even predicted, wrongly, that it would prove to be debilitating. I think they have the right to celebrate, although doing it back out on the ice wasn't smart.

However you feel about the celebration, note the non-apology apology: We're sorry if anyone was offended by our actions. Translation: We're not sorry, get over it. It's all the rage these days.

Is the criticism legit, or are they getting a bad rap?
