Seahawks expected to wear green jersey against the Bears

Alternate jersey will be a "rave" green color

Seattle Times staff reporter

The Seahawks are going green for today's game against Chicago and it has nothing to do with the recycling policies at Qwest Field. This much more literal as Seattle is expected to wear a green alternate jersey for today's home game against the Bears, a potential jersey change that has been rumored since as far back as April. The Seahawks won't be the first team to break out green jerseys for a special occasion. Notre Dame has been known to do it every once in a while, but safe to say the Seahawks' green is more aggressive. It's fluorescent "rave" green, which has been part of the team's color scheme, included on the trim of Seattle's uniform since the team made its first significant change to the uniforms since entering the league in 1976, dumping the silver helmets and going to a darker shade of blue. NFL teams have an option of using a third alternate jersey, but the Seahawks have chosen not to — at least until now.

Matt Hasselbeck said on Twitter that the Seahawks will be wearing the jersey on Sunday and posted a photo of Nate Burleson wearing the jersey.
