Players of the game

• Seahawks defensive tackle Red Bryant had three tackles and half a sack, and he became the first player in franchise history to block two field-goal attempts in a game. He was also ejected in the fourth quarter.

• Browns kicker Phil Dawson made two field goals, from 52 and 53 yards, to make him Man of the Match in a football game with futbol-like scoring.

Play of the game

Leon Washington returned a punt 81 yards for what appeared to be the go-ahead touchdown midway through the third quarter, only to have it called back because of a block-in-the-back penalty against Kennard Cox. Cleveland's Kevin Dockery appeared to embellish the impact, drawing the flag that nullified what would have been Washington's first touchdown of the season. Seattle quarterback Charlie Whitehurst was intercepted on the next play.

Turning point

The Browns faced third-and-11 on their 48 with a 6-3 lead midway through the fourth quarter. The Seahawks blitzed both Kam Chancellor and Cox. Cleveland quarterback Colt McCoy juked past Cox and ran for 12 yards, diving for a first down and extending the drive. Of Cleveland's three third-down conversions on the drive, McCoy's scramble was the most damaging as the Browns consumed 5:59 of the clock.

By the numbers

137 yards of total offense for Seattle, second-fewest the Seahawks have had in any game since 2000.

15 Penalties in the game, eight against Seattle.

0 drives inside the opponent's 30 in the first half.

Injury report

Seahawks — CB Walter Thurmond suffered a broken fibula in the second quarter and is out for the year. RB Marshawn Lynch did not play because of back spasms. S Kam Chancellor suffered a bruised knee, but returned.

Browns — TE Ben Watson and WR Mohamed Massaquoi suffered concussions. DB Ray Ventrone left with a sore hamstring, OL Shawn Lauvao suffered a knee injury.

"We left the margin too close. We thought we could do more than this, particularly on offense, but it was just one of those games." — Seahawks coach Pete Carroll
