What happened

The Seahawks put on shoulder pads for the first time this season and were able to do at least some semblance of hitting. “It was nice to get back to some real football,’’ said defensive coordinator Dan Quinn. With linemen able to do some hitting, there was a heavy emphasis on the run game.

The big story

Among the many reasons the Seahawks wanted Percy Harvin was for his kickoff-return ability. With his availability uncertain, the team may need some others to handle those duties. Saturday, six players were getting work on kickoff returns — Golden Tate (the likely favorite aside from Harvin), cornerbacks Jeremy Lane and Will Blackmon and receivers Bryan Walters, Arceto Clark and Justin Veltung.

Play of the day

With the Seahawks doing some serious work on the run game for the first time, it was fitting that a running play may have gotten the biggest reaction from the crowd when rookie Christine Michael started out to the right, then broke back to the left and outraced the defense to the sideline.

Injury report

No significant injuries from practice. One new player sitting out was rookie DT Jesse Williams, who tweaked his knee in practice Friday. Also out are fullback Michael Robinson and LB Heath Farwell. Carroll said Robinson hurt his ankle the first day of practice and Farwell has back spasms. Also remaining out are the six players on the Physically Unable to Perform list, including Harvin and tight end Zach Miller.

Attendance 2,650

Seahawks will practice again Sunday at 10:15 a.m. The practice is open to the public but the spots are sold out.
