11-4-1 Last season

New faces: Signed DT Glenn Dorsey, CB Nnamdi Asomugha; traded for WR Anquan Boldin; drafted S Eric Reid.

Key losses: S Dashon Goldson, QB Alex Smith, WR Randy Moss.

Strengths: The 49ers go head-to-head with the Seahawks for the distinction as the NFL’s deepest roster. San Francisco has quality depth at most positions and returns RB Frank Gore to a powerful ground game. Also considered to have one of the league’s best defenses.

Weaknesses: There aren’t many, but one that has jumped out all offseason is at wide receiver. The 49ers added Angquan Boldin, but veteran WRs Michael Crabtree and Mario Manningham will miss significant time with injuries. Finding suitable options beyond Boldin could be difficult.

Expectations: Same as the Seahawks: San Francisco has its sights set on the Super Bowl, which the 49ers lost a year ago. They certainly have the roster to return.

Quarterback: Colin Kaepernick, who enters his third year in the league but his first full year as a starter. Kaepernick sparked San Francisco to the Super Bowl after his midseason insertion, and former Ravens coach Brian Billick said he would pick Kaepernick if he was starting a franchise.
