Fans feud: 49er group plans billboard near CenturyLink
A billboard in Seattle paid by a 49ers fan group extolling the team’s five Super Bowl victories will be the latest shot in a feud with Seahawks fans.

In the latest salvo between fans of the Seahawks and 49ers, a group of San Francisco supporters are raising money to erect a billboard near CenturyLink Field extolling the team’s history of winning five Super Bowls.
The San Jose Mercury News reported Tuesday that the billboard plans to feature a photo of Dwight Clark’s legendary catch in the 1982 NFC title game win over Dallas “hidden behind the five Lombardi Trophies the Niners have won as a franchise.”
The Seahawks, who have the NFC’s best record at 12-2, have never won a Super Bowl, losing to the Pittsburgh Steelers after the 2005 season.
The group’s website says that the idea was hatched by fans who “decided to counter the Seahawks’ fans flying a plane with their banner around Candlestick by placing a billboard showing our 49er pride in Seattle.”
The Mercury News story said that the billboard project was projected to cost $7,000. The group’s website said it had raised $8,369 as of Tuesday afternoon.
According to the project’s founder, Aasheesh Shravah, all extra money will be contributed to Seattle Children’s Hospital. Shravah told the newspaper: “We figured if we could raise at least $7,000, we’d be able to do something in response to the banner. So many people responded.”
According to the website, the group hopes to keep the ad visible for at least a month, extending into January, when the NFL playoffs begin.
