RENTON — Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman was fined $7,875 by the NFL for taunting in the final minute of the NFC Championship Game last Sunday against San Francisco.

That’s the standard amount for unsportsmanlike conduct fines.

Sherman tipped a pass in the final seconds that was intercepted by linebacker Malcolm Smith in the end zone. After the play, which secured Seattle’s spot in the Super Bowl, Sherman made a choke gesture directed at San Francisco quarterback Colin Kaepernick. Sherman was penalized on the play. He was fined for the choke sign, not for approaching 49ers wide receiver Michael Crabtree after the play.

Sherman, of course, then went on live television and gave an fiery interview with Fox Sports’ Erin Andrews that dominated Super Bowl talk this week.

A close eye

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll said he and the rest of Seattle’s coaching staff will keep a close eye on players during the week leading up to the Super Bowl.

“You always have concerns about your guys doing the right thing,” Carroll said. “These guys know, they understand, they’ve been fantastic. But I’m always concerned. We don’t know what could come our way. Things could happen. I’m just always on alert. Our whole crew is. We’re going to try to keep a very secure setting and a real lockdown opportunity for our guys so they can stay focused.”

Send-off all set

The Seahawks announced fans are invited to line the street as the team heads to the airport Sunday. According to the Seahawks, fans should line South 188th Street starting at 46th Avenue South toward 28th Avenue South. The Seahawks will leave the team’s training facility in Renton at 10:30 a.m.

The Seahawks offered suggested parking at Tyee Educational Complex, Chinook Middle School, Bow Lake Elementary School, City Hall, Angle Lake Park and SeaTac Airport.

Notes

• Running back Marshawn Lynch (knee) and receiver Doug Baldwin (hip) didn’t practice this week after getting banged up against San Francisco. Carroll said both would play in the Super Bowl.

• Receiver Percy Harvin won’t have limitations in the Super Bowl. “He’ll be fully involved,” Carroll said.

• Carroll strongly suggested that James Carpenter and Paul McQuistan will rotate at left guard. Those two split most of the snaps at left guard this season, but rookie Michael Bowie stepped in and started against New Orleans two weeks ago.
