Seahawks fans eager to welcome their NFL champions home from New Jersey are being told to wait until Wednesday, when the city will hold a traditional parade for the team in downtown Seattle.

The parade will start at 11 a.m. on Fourth Avenue, south of Denny Way, and will continue along Fourth, arriving at CenturyLink Field around 1:30 p.m. Fans are encouraged to carpool or travel to the parade route using transit, as parking will be very limited.

Team officials announced immediately after the Seahawks’ 43-8 rout of Denver in the Super Bowl that, because of safety concerns, there will be no access for fans hoping to greet the team at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. The team is expected to arrive at Sea-Tac at 6:30 p.m. Monday after their flight was delayed on Monday. They were originally expected to land at 2:30.

There also will not be any area for fans to watch for the team along South 188th Street in SeaTac, or at Virginia Mason Athletic Center, the team’s practice facility in Renton, unlike when the team departed for New Jersey.

The team won’t travel along South 188th Street, the announcement said.

Monday, Seahawks coach Pete Carroll and Super Bowl MVP Malcolm Smith will hold a news conference in New York at 5:30 a.m. Pacific time.
