NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Running back Bishop Sankey, a former Washington Huskies standout, has agreed to terms on a four-year contract with the Tennessee Titans.
Sankey, the first running back taken in last month’s draft, was picked in the second round at No. 54 overall.
According to The Tennessean newspaper, Sankey’s signing bonus is expected to be about $1.18 million. His base salaries reportedly are $420,000 this year, $510,000 in 2015, $600,000 in 2016 and $690,000 in 2017.
Manziel has a deal
BEREA, Ohio – High-profile rookie quarterback Johnny Manziel agreed to a four-year contract with the Cleveland Browns.
Manziel, who won the 2012 Heisman Trophy while playing for Texas A&M, has a deal reportedly worth $8,247,250 that includes $4.318 million for signing.
Manziel was the 22nd player drafted and will compete with veteran Brian Hoyer for the starting job.
2 Niners are absent
SANTA CLARA, Calif. – The start of the San Francisco 49ers’ three-day mandatory minicamp was overshadowed by players who were absent.
Two-time Pro Bowl tight end Vernon Davis and right guard Alex Boone skipped Tuesday’s activities. Both starters are seeking raises despite two years left on their contracts.
Meanwhile, cornerback Eric Wright, a seven-year veteran who played in seven games last season, announced his retirement because he “no longer had the same passion” for the game.
Coach Jim Harbaugh said he was disappointed Davis and Boone are not at the minicamp.
“Not the decision that I envisioned being the 49er way,” Harbaugh said. “Really nothing more to be said about it. The focus will be on what’s going on here.”
