SANTA CLARA, Calif. — The San Francisco 49ers have placed linebacker NaVorro Bowman and defensive lineman Glenn Dorsey on season-ending injured reserve.

The Niners promoted cornerback Marcus Cromartie and guard Andrew Tiller from the practice squad Saturday to take the place of Bowman and Dorsey on the roster.

Bowman has been out since tearing knee ligaments in the NFC Championship Game last January against the Seahawks. He started the season on the physically unable to perform list and was added to the active roster earlier this week. But he has not practiced and the Niners decided to shut him down for the year.

Dorsey tore his biceps in training camp and started the season on the short-term injured reserve list but ultimately did not heal enough to play this season.

Notes

Billy Cundiff practiced inside FirstEnergy Stadium on Thursday, working on his mechanics and hoping to snap out of his recent funk.

He won’t play there Sunday.

The Cleveland Browns waived the slumping kicker and replaced him with veteran Garrett Hartley, who will likely kick against the AFC North-leading Cincinnati Bengals.

• The Denver Broncos placed Montee Ball on injured reserve Saturday, ending a disappointing season for the once-heralded running back.

The Broncos needed to create roster space in order to activate linebacker Danny Trevathan from injured reserve/designated to return, prompting the team to place Ball on season-ending IR.

• The Tennessee Titans have placed right tackle Michael Oher on injured reserve with a sore toe on his left foot that kept him out of the past two games. Tennessee announced the move Saturday bringing the number of Titans on injured reserve to 12 this season, including eight starters.

• Chicago kicker Robbie Gould is questionable for Monday night’s game against New Orleans because of a right quadriceps injury. Gould sat out last week against Dallas. If he’s not available, Jay Feely is expected be the kicker again.
