Report: Seahawks to meet with Safety Atogwe
Posted by Danny O'Neil
Atogwe became a free agent after the Rams declined to increase his one-year qualifying offer on June 1.
He was Rams' franchise player last season and is a productive player. Schefter reported the Rams remain the favorite to re-sign Atogwe.
Seattle general manager John Schneider stated repeatedly the team will explore all options for improving the team, and the pursuit of a top-flight safety isn't totally out of the question.
However, Seattle did draft Earl Thomas No. 14 overall to play free safety, the team returns Jordan Babineaux and Lawyer Milloy and it also chose Kam Chancellor in the fifth round, who is a big-bodied safety.
The Seahawks are the first team identified as a potential alternate suitor for Atogwe.
Update at 7:36 p.m.: The Seahawks have indicated that no visit is currently planned for Atogwe. The Seahawks already have quite a bit invested in their safety position so it would seem unlikely they would add a player with as high a price tage as Atogwe will command. This will be something to keep monitoring, but for now, there's nothing imminent on a visit let alone a contract.
