Posted by Danny O'Neil
George Martin is the first former NFL player to lead the NFL Alumni Association. He was named executive director and president on May 5, 2010. As head of the organization, George is the voice of advocacy for former players.
He enjoyed an exceptional 14-year career as a defensive lineman for the New York Giants and was a co-captain of the 1986 Super Bowl winning team. He was also a past president of the NFL Players Association.
His brother, Doug Martin, was a standout defensive lineman at the University of Washington from 1976-79 and a two-time All Pac-10 and All-Coast selection in 1978-79.
Doug was drafted No. 9 overall in the 1980 draft by the Minnesota Vikings and went on to play 10 seasons in the NFL.
The Martin brothers will be available to talk about their careers in football, NFL issues such as concussions and how the game has evolved and much more in a live chat at noon Wednesday on seattletimes.com.
