Tag, you're it

Posted by Danny O'Neil

The Seahawks are the only NFL team to use the franchise tag in each of the previous four years.

Whether they will again is an open question with defensive tackle Brandon Mebane and kicker Olindo Mare the most reasonable candidates.

There have already been six players reportedly designated as franchise players, which matches the total number of franchise tags that were handed out all of last season. The six players designated franchise players -- according to reports so far: Haloti Ngata (Baltimore), Peyton Manning (Indianapolis), David Harris (New York Jets), Logan Mankins (New England), Mike Vick (Philadelphia) and Vincent Jackson (San Diego).

There were 14 franchise tags administered in 2009, the highest ever in the NFL.
