Jake Locker on baseball: 'I'm a football player'

Angels wonder about Jake Locker

Jake Locker's baseball rights belong to the Angels, and the possibility of an NFL work stoppage has prompted several recent reports out of Southern California regarding his baseball possibilities.

Tony Reagins, the Angels GM, has referenced contractual obligations, which presumably could be a factor this year depending upon the situation.

"He has a contractual obligation, and the expectation is he will fulfill it. We're abreast of the situation. We don't know what's going to happen with the NFL. Right now, Jake has option."
-- Tony Reagins, Angels GM, to The Los Angeles Times

Locker was asked Friday whether he closed the door on baseball, and while he didn't rule out the possibility of baseball, he made it clear that as long as he has a chance to play football, that's what he's going to do:

"I'm a football player and that's what my focus has been. I've been honest, up front with them about that. Football is where my heart is. I love the game. I love playing the game. As long as I have an opportunity to play football, I'm gonna'."
