Seahawks re-sign receivers after a couple of injuries

Posted by Danny O'Neil

RENTON -- The Seahawks re-signed receivers Chris Carter and Patrick Williams on Wednesday, and while that doesn't mean you'll see those two in the regular season, it does hint that a pair of Seattle's more prominent receivers won't be available for the final exhibition game.

Neither Ben Obomanu nor Sidney Rice finished practiced Tuesday. Obomanu left the field after suffering what appeared to be a blow to the head while Rice iced a shoulder that has been bothering him. The re-signing of Carter and Williams -- both of whom were released Monday -- is an indication that Seattle wants to have some depth for Friday's exhibition if Rice and/or Obomanu is out.

All that could add up to more opportunities for Golden Tate, the second-year receiver who for the second consecutive year has been largely a non-factor during the exhibition games.

Tate did not play in the first half of Saturday's game at Denver, and coach Pete Carroll indicated afterward that was because Obomanu filled the role as the primary slot receiver with the starting offense.
