Game in review: 49ers 19, Seahawks 17

Players of the game

Seahawks running back Marshawn Lynch rushed 21 times for 107 yards, becoming the first player to gain more than 100 yards in a game against the 49ers since November 2009. Lynch's 4-yard touchdown run in the fourth quarter was the first rushing score against San Francisco this season.

Niners linebacker Larry Grant forced the only turnover of the game with a leaping strip of Tarvaris Jackson to prevent the Seahawks from gaining a first down and extending the drive.

San Francisco kicker David Aker made four of the five field goals he attempted -- including a 53-yarder -- and set an NFL record with 42 field goals.

Play of the game

The 49ers were getting ready to punt the ball back to Seattle, the 49ers leading 16-10 with 7 minutes left in the game. The Seahawks' had 25 yards of total offense in the second half at that point, their only first down coming by way of penalty. Linebacker Heath Farwell blocked San Francisco's punt, and while Lee recovered the ball, he was tackled at the Seattle 4. It was Seattle's second blocked punt of the year, and it set up the Seahawks' only touchdown of the second half.

Turning point

Seattle had the ball just past midfield with just over a minute left in the game. It was third down, and Seattle needed 3 yards for the first down and 17 or more to have a clearly makeable field goal. Jackson looked for receiver Golden Tate in the flat, but that was covered. Jackson pulled down the ball, and began to scramble. He was 2 yards downfield, and cutting to avoid a tackler, and he never sensed the linebacker closing from behind. The 49ers' Grant made a leaping swipe, knocking the ball loose from Jackson. The fumble was recovered by 49ers safety Donte Whitner.

Seahawks surprises

By the numbers

227 -- yards of offense San Francisco gained in the second half.

72 -- yards of offense for Seattle in the second half. The Seahawks gained only three first downs after halftime.

16 -- yards penalties cost Seattle in the third quarter.

13 -- yards of total offense the Seahawks gained in that third quarter.

Seahawks: WR Ben Obomanu suffered a sprained knee in the second half. 49ers: DL Justin Smith suffered a left leg injury in the first quarter, but returned. LB Ahmad Brooks suffered a first-half elbow injury, but also returned.

Seahawks coach Pete Carroll, "We're playing well right now, and we could play anybody. I just wish we wouldn't have taken so long. We should be in the darn hunt to still be playing, and it's unfortunate that the first half of the season doesn't allow us to."
