Seahawks health updates: Carpenter's knee, Rice's shoulders
Those were the two most pertinent notes in the litany of health updates Schneider provided.
Start with Carpenter, who suffered a very serious knee injury midway through last season, and while there are no indications he has suffered a setback, Schneider did not expect he would be ready to begin practice when training camp opens at the end of July.
"That would be overly optimistic I think," Schneider said. "I would probably personally guard against it."
As for Rice, who underwent a separate surgical procedure on each shoulder this offseason, he's not expected to practice in the offseason minicamps, but Schneider seemed encouraged about his prospects for the fall.
"This is the healthiest he's going to be since he's been a professional," Schneider said.
• DE Dexter Davis has recovered from a hip injury that ended his 2011 season before it really got going.
• Jameson Konz is seen as a pass-rushing defensive end as he returns from knee surgery.
• CB Walter Thurmond did apparently suffer a setback in his recovery though Schneider didn't specify what it was or when he's likely to return. "Walter's had a rough go," Schneider said. "He's had some bad luck with his injuries. He's a great guy, a good player, so hopefully he's progressing. We'll see how fast he can progress."
