M's notebook: Madritsch will join team on trip
Seattle Times staff reporter
If there was a time to rejoin the team for a trip, Bobby Madritsch figures he couldn't have picked better than next week.
"They told me that I would be going with the team on the road," said the left-hander, who went out in the fifth inning of his first start and has missed the entire season. "I wondered where we'd be going, and I found out Detroit and Chicago. I couldn't believe it ... Chi-town."
As in home town for the left-hander, who two weeks ago found out that a tear in his rotator cuff had filled in with rest.
"BP [pitching coach Bryan Price] told me that he and I would be playing catch," the pitcher said. "I'm anxious and I want to really get going, but I know now is the time for real patience. Still, seeing this progress staying on the program has been great for me."
Madritsch said he doesn't care much whether he pitches this year or not.
"I just want to know that I'm healthy and ready to get on a mound and go to work when I walk through the door at camp next spring," he said.
M's activate Hansen
Eight days after they first announced they were sending Chris Snelling down to Tacoma make room on the roster for Dave Hansen to come off the disabled list, the Mariners made the switch yesterday.
Reliever Rafael Soriano also will accompany the Mariners on their trip next week so they can better monitor his work as he returns from a shoulder problem that cropped up in his rehab from 2004 elbow surgery. Manager Mike Hargrove said the pitcher felt "a little tender" after his workout Monday.
• Detroit 3B Brandon Inge was not in the lineup after playing 141 consecutive games.
