Cleaves signs 10-day contract

The Associated Press

SEATTLE – Backup guard Mateen Cleaves signed a second 10-day contract Tuesday with the Seattle Sonics.

He signed his first 10-day deal with Seattle on Jan. 28, less than a month after he was waived by the team. Since rejoining Seattle, Cleaves has played in four games, but was scoreless until Monday night's loss at Charlotte, when he played 15 minutes and scored 1 point.

He was released by Seattle on Jan. 4 after averaging 3.4 points and 1.7 assists in 19 games. He signed with Fayetteville of the NBA Development League on Jan. 21 and had six points and four assists in his one game with the Patriots.

In his sixth year out of Michigan State, Cleaves is backing up Luke Ridnour at point guard. Rick Brunson has been out with an injured left foot.
