ARLINGTON — A Meadowdale three-point shot was off target as the clock ran out in overtime, allowing Squalicum to escape with a 69-67 victory over the Mavericks in a winner-to-state, loser-out boys basketball game in the Northwest 3A District tournament Saturday night.
The sixth-ranked Storm (19-5) from Bellingham ended the season for the Mavericks (17-9) from Lynnwood despite a season-high 33 points by 6-foot-3 senior wing Milan Moncrief of Meadowdale.
Meadowdale had a three-point lead in the final minute of regulation before Chad Clark tied it for Squalicum with a three-pointer with 40 seconds left.
The Mavericks held the ball for a final shot, but Nick Stackhouse of Squalicum stole the ball and raced to the other end of the floor before his attempt at a winning shot was blocked by Nero Threet III.
Royal Prendergast scored 24 points and Stackhouse had 18 for Squalicum.
It was the second victory in seven days by the Storm over Meadowdale. The Storm won the first one 53-36 in a second-round district game.
