People in sports | Clijsters pregnant with first child

Kim Clijsters: The former top-ranked Belgian tennis star, who will marry American basketball player Brian Lynch on Saturday, is pregnant with her first child.

Family spokesman Jeroen Jespers said Clijsters and Lynch will be married in her hometown of Bree, in northern Belgium.

He said the couple have always wanted children, and Clijsters became pregnant after announcing her retirement in May.

The 23-year-old retired after a string of injuries. Lynch plays professional basketball in the Belgian league.

Clijsters was Belgium's first tennis player to reach No. 1, holding the top ranking for 19 weeks in 2003. Clijsters won the 2002 and 2003 WTA Championships among her 34 career singles titles, plus the 2005 U.S. Open, her only Grand Slam win.

Yi Jianlian: Chinese fans want their country's 7-foot star to sign with the Milwaukee Bucks, who drafted him sixth overall two weeks ago. His agent, Dan Fegan, has pushed for a trade and wants Yi in a city with a large Asian influence.

"Fegan will hamper Yi's future," former national-team coach Qian Chenghai said in Tuesday editions of the China Daily. "I don't think Yi refused to join the Bucks; it is Fegan who doesn't want him to join."

Results of an online poll published in the newspaper showed 68 percent of 9,000 respondents want the 7-foot Yi to remain with the Bucks.
