PULLMAN — Washington State has added a game against Notre Dame to its 2009 football schedule. The two teams will meet Oct. 31, 2009, at the Alamodome in San Antonio.
"It's Halloween — we will trick-or-treat them," said Cougars coach Bill Doba. "It's always a privilege to play a team like Notre Dame. They have great tradition, and it is going to be a great experience for our kids to play in the Alamodome.
"It is an excellent opportunity to play a first-class team in a neutral site."
The game at the Alamodome will be the first of annual off-site games Notre Dame plans to play to try to make its contests more accessible to fans around the country.
Since it is considered a home game for Notre Dame, NBC will televise it.
The school announced on Thursday that it would play games in which it would be considered the home team at the Citrus Bowl in Orlando in 2011 and 2014. No opponents have been announced.
The Cougars and Irish will be meeting for just the second time in series history. In 2003, the Irish rallied late for a 29-26 win in overtime at Notre Dame Stadium.
Notre Dame is one of two nonconference games currently scheduled for WSU's 2009 season. The Cougars will also face Hawaii.
