DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. —

Nneka Enemkpali scored a career-high 25 points and Chassidy Fussell scored 23 to lead Texas over No. 14 St. John's 70-60 Friday in the teams' season opener.

Enemkpali, a sophomore forward, also had 12 rebounds for her first career double-double. The Longhorns, who were 18-14 last season and lost in the first round of the NCAA tournament, outrebounded the Red Storm 47-26 in the WBI Tip Off Invitational game.

Fussell, who was second in the nation in free-throw shooting last year (90.5 percent) extended her streak of free throws made to 30 before missing her seventh attempt. Five of Fussell's free throws came in the final 5:31 when Texas closed with a 12-2 run.

Briana Brown scored 17 points with 10 rebounds and Eugeneia McPherson had 14 points for the Red Storm, which led 36-33 at the half. St. John's went 24-10 last season and reached the NCAA Sweet 16.

The Red Storm were missing seniors Shenneika Smith and Jennifer Blanding, who were suspended for a game by the NCAA for participating in a non-sanctioned game during the summer.
