Skiers and snowboarders will find a wide variety of conditions on the mountainsides heading into the holiday weekend.

The mixed forecast calls for plenty of sunshine and warmer temperatures Friday, then light to moderate precipitation along with lowering freezing levels on Saturday.

By Sunday it will clear up, followed by more light snowfall Monday and Tuesday.

All Western Washington ski and snowboard areas were reporting just a dusting of snow Wednesday along with nice conditions on and off the main trails.

Crystal Mountain Resort has eight lifts open at 9 a.m. daily, with a base of 63 inches and a summit total of 95 inches. The season snowfall is 324 inches. Crystal is operating on extended hours during weekends and holidays, with Chinook Express and Forest Queen open until 4:30 p.m., and Discovery, Gold Hills and Quicksilver running until 6 p.m.

Stevens Pass Resort has 37 trails open (24 groomed) with nine lifts in operation on an 87-inch base, with 98 inches on the summit. The season snowfall total is 350 inches, and 2 inches has fallen the past two days. Stevens is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday-Tuesday; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Wednesday-Saturday; and 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday. During this holiday weekend, Stevens will be open Sunday until 10 p.m., and Monday until 8 p.m.

The Summit at Snoqualmie and Alpental received up to 5 inches the past two days. The Summit West base is covered with 67 inches. Alpental has 82 inches on lower slopes and 146 inches on the summit.

Summit Central is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday through Feb. 23. Alpental is open 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday to Saturday, and Tuesday through Feb. 23; and 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday.

Summit West is open 4 p.m. to 10 p.m. Thursday and Friday, and Wednesday through Feb. 22; 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday; 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday and Monday; and closed on Tuesday.

Summit East reopens 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday. The Summit Tubing Center is open 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday to Sunday, 9 a.m. to 5:45 p.m. Monday through Thursday. The Nordic center is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday to Monday.

The Mount Baker Ski Area is open 9 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Heather Meadows has a base of 162 inches, and 187 inches covers the base of Pan Dome.

The White Pass Ski Area is open 8:45 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily, with six lifts operating on 47 machine-groomed trails. The area received a trace to 1 inch of snow Wednesday night, with a 73-inch base and a summit depth of 112 inches.

Mission Ridge has three lifts with 43 trails open (20 groomed) from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. daily through Feb. 25. Mission has a midway base depth of 34 inches and a summit total of 54 inches.

The 49 Degrees North Ski Area has a 62-inch base and a summit total of 122 inches, and is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Fridays to Tuesdays. Five lifts will operate on 82 trails (36 groomed).

Mount Spokane Ski and Snowboard Park is open 9 a.m. to 9:30 p.m. Wednesday to Saturday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday. There are 45 trails open, 31 of them groomed, with a base of 69 inches and 72 inches on the summit.

Ski Bluewood is open 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday to Monday, and has a base of 46 inches and a summit total of 66 inches. All lifts are open, leading to 24 trails, with seven groomed.

The Hurricane Ridge Ski Area is open 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday through Monday. Hurricane Ridge received 2 inches of snow Wednesday and has a 100-inch base, operating three lifts on three trails.

Ski Leavenworth is open 3 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Friday, and 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. During midwinter break next week they'll be open Monday 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m., and Tuesday to Friday from noon to 6 p.m. They have a base of 13 inches. The Nordic trails are open daily 8 a.m. to 2 p.m., and the area also offers snowshoeing, a ski jumping hill, tubing and ice skating.

Slopeside events

• The Red Bull Third Shift Competition qualifier is 3 p.m. Friday at Summit Central at The Summit at Snoqualmie. The qualifying event searches out the best 20 skiers and 20 snowboarders to take part in the main event on Saturday. Details:

• The Leavenworth Winter Sports Club Carnival Day is 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday. Events include Bavarian Cup Nordic Races, BBQ lunch, alpine racing, ski jump and big air competition. There's also live music, rail jam, face painting, torchlight parade and fireworks. Details:

• The Bomber Banked Slalom event is Saturday at the Mission Ridge Ski Area. Details:

• The Mount Hood Meadows Ski Resort President's Day Special Night Lift Pass will cost only $10. Skiers and snowboarders can purchase the pass online before 2 p.m. on Monday to hit the slopes from 3 p.m. to 9 p.m. At the ticket window, the cost is $20. Details:

• The FIS Speed Skiing World Cup Event is Feb. 28 to March 3 at the Sun Peaks Resort in British Columbia. The top 50 world's fastest skiers from 10 countries will converge on the Headwalls Speed Skiing Track to see if anyone can break the Sun Peaks record of 110 mph (the world record is 155 mph). • The Leavenworth Mountain Association Avalanche Safety Course is 6 p.m. Feb. 21 at the Leavenworth Winter Sports Club Ski Hill. The tour-planning clinic taught by professional avalanche educators and guides will discuss a wide range of programs from reading topo maps and weather forecasts to assessing dynamics of a group heading up to the hills.
