DAYTON, Ohio – Cold shooting in the first half doomed the Washington State women in an 87-76 loss to Dayton on Sunday.

The Cougars (5-5) shot 25 percent in the opening 20 minutes and trailed 41-26 at halftime.

WSU shot 50 percent in the second half and outscored the Flyers 50-46 in that span.

Sophomore guard Lia Galdeira of Washington State led all scorers with 29 points and teammate Tia Presley, a junior guard from Spokane, added 17. But neither shot well. Galdeira was 10 of 28 from the field and Presley was 5 for 17.

Ally Malott scored 19 points for Dayton (3-4), which had a 54-31 rebounding advantage.

Three-point shooting worked against WSU, which made 23.5 percent from long range (4 of 17). Meanwhile, Dayton connected on 47.1 percent of its three-point attempts (8 of 17).

The Flyers had trouble taking care of the ball; they made 25 turnovers, compared with 11 for the Cougars.

Dayton protected its lead by making nine of its last 10 free throws. The Flyers were 25 of 31 from the line. WSU made 16 of 27 free throws.

• UCLA posted its first road victory of the season when it edged San Diego State 56-55.

Ahjalee Harvey of San Diego State (1-6) could have tied the score by making a free throw with five seconds left, but she missed and Nirra Fields of the Bruins (4-5) got the rebound.

Fields scored a game-high 18 points.

• Freshman Hind Ben Abdelkader scored a career-high 18 points to help No. 22 California beat visiting Cal State Bakersfield 70-51.

The Golden Bears (7-2) have won seven games in a row.

• Candice Warthen scored 23 points on 9-for-13 shooting to lead host Arizona to a 65-56 victory over Texas Tech.

Arizona (2-7) had a 53-38 rebounding advantage over the Raiders (4-4).

• In the lone game involving a top-five team, No. 5 Kentucky beat Eastern Tennessee State 73-56 to improve to 11-0.
