New faces: Chris Petersen
New Washington football coach is no fan of Twitter
The record — 92-12 — speaks for itself.
That was Chris Petersen’s mark in eight seasons as the head coach at Boise State, an 88.5 winning percentage that was the best in major-college football over that span.
But you won’t hear, or see, him boast about that on Twitter.
Petersen was introduced as Washington’s new football coach on Dec. 9 and officially took over the team after the Huskies wrapped up the Fight Hunger Bowl on Friday.
Whether he can replicate his success at UW remains to be seen. It also remains to be seen whether he will continue a ban on Twitter he enforced for players at Boise State.
“It really doesn’t come up around (Boise),” Petersen said in an interview earlier this year. “They get that. I still believe strongly in that just because I think it can be emotional, and all of a sudden they hit that send button, and five minutes later, they’re going, ‘Oh.’ There are so many other forms of media out there.
“I think they’re scared to death we’re going to take away Instagram and Facebook and Vine and all those other things, so they don’t say a word about Twitter because it is so much the same.”
