Huskies add three athletes to NCAA track championships
Katie Flood, Nick Harris and Izaic Yorks all advance to the NCAA championships June 11-14 in Eugene, Ore.
Over three quick heats all in a row, the Washington Huskies added three more NCAA qualifiers, bringing their three-day total to 13.
Nick Harris and Izaic Yorks both moved on to the NCAA championships in the men’s 1,500 meters, and then Katie Flood earned her third trip to the national meet in the women’s 1,500 at the NCAA West preliminary championships in Fayetteville, Ark., Saturday.
Flood finished second in 4 minutes, 17.76 seconds.
Yorks was sixth overall in 3:42.29, and Harris was fourth in his heat (3:45.71).
Washington State’s Jesse Jorgensen (men’s 800) and Andrew Gonzales (men’s 3,000 steeplechase) also advance to the NCAA Championships in Eugene, Ore., June 11-14.
• Two-time defending champion Frank Garber of Kirkland leads the boys 16-18 division with a 4-under 68 after the first round of the PNW PGA Junior Championships at Lake Spanaway Golf Course in Tacoma.
Garber, who has signed with Washington, leads John Sand of Hoquiam by one stroke on the 6,873-yard course.
Matt Marrese of Bellevue is third with a 70.
In the girls 16-18 division, Olivia Benzin of Tacoma shot a 3-under 69. Marianne Li of Bellevue shot 70 on the 5,975-yard course.
