Races in 5th, 30th Districts still too close to call

Several Eastside legislative races remained close Wednesday, especially in the 5th Legislative District contest between Rep. Glenn Anderson, R-Fall City, and Democratic challenger David Spring.

A couple of state legislative races in King County remained close Wednesday.

In the 5th Legislative District, incumbent Rep. Glenn Anderson, R-Fall City, was leading Democratic challenger David Spring by just a handful of votes late Wednesday, with thousands more left to be counted, according to the latest results.

The district includes most of Sammamish and Issaquah.

"We're going to wait until every last one's counted," Anderson said.

"I don't think you can get much closer than that," Spring agreed. He is confident the remaining absentee ballots will trend his way.

In the 30th Legislative District, incumbent Skip Priest, R-Federal Way, was leading his Democratic challenger, nonprofit executive Carol Gregory, by fewer than 100 votes. That gap is expected to narrow as more mail-in ballots are counted.

"I'm cautiously optimistic, that's all I can say," Gregory said. "We'll just see how it goes."

In the 41st Legislative District, an anticipated squeaker between Renton real-estate agent Marcie Maxwell and technology entrepreneur Steve Litzow has not materialized. Maxwell was well ahead of Litzow.

In Redmond's 45th District, Democratic incumbent Roger Goodman fought off a challenge by former Republican Rep. Toby Nixon, in one of the most expensive House races in the state.

"I probably got some coattails," Goodman said, referring to supporters of Sen. Barack Obama voting downticket.
