Canada-Russia the hot ticket today

Posted by Bob Condotta

There was little question what the hot hockey ticket in town was today.

Federal Way resident Jon Lindenauer and his teenage son, Kris, hoping to catch a little Olympic fever, drove to Vancouver this morning and decided to shop around for tickets for the United States-Switzerland game, stopping at the corner of Georgia and Beatty --- a particularly active spot for buying and selling.

Lindenauer talked to one buyer who had two $300 tickets and wanted face value. Lindenauer said he had $300 total to spend and began to walk away. The seller asked him to hold on, made a quick call, then came back and said "okay.'' Lindenauer and son sat 12 rows back of the goal on the U.S. side of the rink.

A few hours later, wondering if they might get as lucky and find something for the Canada-Russia game, Lindenauer returned to the same intersection.

Alas, it was not to be.

One seller said sure, he had tickets. Price? $1,000.

The next one? $850.

When Lindenauer pointed out he'd just gotten U.S. tickets under face value, the seller said "But these are two hockey-crazed nations going at it'' referring to Canada and Russia.

So far, the Canadian fans are getting their money's worth, their team ahead 3-0.
