Two men arrested after shooting at new Belltown club

Posted by Jennifer Sullivan

A bouncer at a new Belltown club was shot in the hand this morning allegedly by a man angry that he was thrown out for being disruptive.

Seattle police were called to the Copper Cart Cafe on Bell Street at 1:11 a.m. on a report of a gunshot, said department spokeswoman Renee Witt. The bouncer was taken to Harborview Medical Center for treatment.

Witnesses told police that the shooting occurred after two men were booted from the club. One man, angry about being kicked out, threatened to "get a gun and shoot up the place," Witt said. Club security officers followed the men to their car. When the men reached the car, one of them grabbed a gun from the car and club security staff tried to wrestle it from him.

The gun went off during the tussle and a bullet struck one of the security men in the left hand, police said. Other security staffers grabbed the two men and held them for police. The two men were arrested for investigation of assault and their car was impounded, Witt said.

The Copper Cart Cafe just recently opened, police said.
