Woman hit by train and killed early Sunday

Posted by Seattle Times staff

A woman walking on the railroad tracks near Martin Luther King Jr. Way South and Renton Avenue South in Seattle died after being hit by a Link light rail train early Sunday, according to Seattle Police.

The train operator sounded the train's warning horn repeatedly and applied the brakes but was unable to avoid hitting the woman, according to police. The initial investigation into the accident also showed that the pedestrian did not make any effort to move off of the tracks, police said. The accident occurred around 12:50 a.m.

The Seattle Fire Department transported the woman to Harvorview Medical Center, where she later died from her injuries. Police are continuing to investigate.
