Male driver killed when vehicle hits tree in Renton

Posted by Cathy McLain

A driver died Thursday afternoon when his vehicle hit a tree in Renton and caught fire.

The accident, in the 400 block of Rainier Avenue North, was reported to police in a 911 call at about 3:45 p.m., according to a police department news release.

The car was “fully involved in flames” when the 911 call came in, the release said, and the driver was determined to be dead by emergency personnel when they arrived. The driver has not been identified.

Police say speed may have been a factor in the accident.

Renton police ask anybody with information about the crash to call the Traffic Unit at 425-430-7500, reference case 11-7083.
