Jogger assaulted in Carkeek Park
Posted by Jeff Hodson
A female jogger was assaulted Monday morning by a man who had been sitting on a bench in Carkeek Park, Seattle police said.
The woman jogged past the man once and again 15 minutes later.
"The suspect then attacked the victim from behind, putting her in a neck hold," Seattle police spokesman Jeff Kappel said. "A serious struggle ensued," and the woman was able to fight off her attacker.
The woman suffered cuts abrasions on her neck, a scratch under chin and scrapes on her lower legs, police said. She was treated at the scene by Seattle Fire Department medics.
The attack occurred at 8:26 a.m. in the 800 block of Northwest Carkeek Park. The man was gone when police arrived, but was last seen walking away from the park eastbound on Northwest 110th Place from 4th Avenue Northwest.
The suspect was described as a Native American male, about 5-feet-8-inches, in his 20's, weighing about 250 pounds, with long black hair. He was last seen wearing a brown long-sleeve shirt with a black short-sleeve shirt over it and dark pants. He was carrying a lime green water bottle.
Anyone with information or who may know the identity or whereabouts of the suspect is asked to call 911 or the Seattle Police Violent Crimes Tip Line at (206) 233-5000.
