Accidental shooting is third in Seattle since Friday

Posted by John de Leon

It's a shooting trifecta.

Seattle police are investigating three accidental shootings, all unrelated, since Friday. Fortunately, none have been fatal.

The most recent happened around 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, when officers responded to a 911 report of an accidental shooting at a home in the 900 block of North 96th Street. Police say it appears a father and his son were showing each other their handguns and explaining the proper way to safely load/unload and disassemble the different makes and models of handguns.

At least that was their plan.

The father was handing a handgun over to his son when the father accidentally pulled the trigger. The gun discharged and a bullet struck the son in the upper thigh and buttocks area, police said.

During the initial 911 call it was reported that the son had accidently shot himself. But police later determined the father had accidentally fired the handgun.

The victim was taken to Harborview Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.

Earlier Tuesday, a 17-year-old boy shot himself in the thigh while riding on a Metro bus in the Rainier Valley.

And on Friday, a 23-year-old man was arrested when he accidentally shot a friend in the back while the pair were riding in an SUV on Fourth Avenue South and South Walker Street.
