Tourists spent $14.2 billion in Washington last year

The 2009 Travel Impacts Report says tourists generated 147,600 jobs in Washington state and spent $14.2 billion.

OLYMPIA, Wash. — Visitors spent $14.2 billion last year in Washington, says a new study.

The 2009 Travel Impacts Report released Tuesday by the Department of Commerce and Washington State Tourism says the visitors generated 147,600 jobs — nearly 4 percent of all jobs in the state.

The report shows a slight decrease in travel spending from peak year 2008, but says that Washington held its own in national market share.
