American Brooke Peterson, of Manson, Chelan County, is shadowed by a troupe of shoe-shine boys during a visit to Pajacuarán, Mexico, last December. Peterson's parents own an orchard, and their foreman, José Alejo, is a native of this village. Visits to meet workers' families in Mexico are a common practice among growers in Washington's orchard country. Some even plan their business year around the foreman's annual trip home to Mexico.
