Beach wins 11th straight, stops Franklin, 77-66 | Boys Basketball
By Seattle Times staff
Rainier Beach, the No. 1 team in Class 3A boys basketball, lost two games in California near the end of December, but the Vikings have made a point of not looking back since.
Rainier Beach won its 11th straight game on Friday, knocking off rival Franklin 77-66 in the final game of the boys basketball regular season.
When Rainier Beach (17-3, 14-1 Metro League) is at its best, the Vikings get scoring from all over. That was the case against Franklin (14-6, 11-4).
Dajuan Piper led the way with 17 points for Beach, Shaqquan Aaron added 14 and Fuquan Niles scored 12.
Patrick Ball had 21 points and five rebounds, and Arell Hennings scored 11 for the Quakers.
Beach jumped all over Franklin early, rushing out to a 20-8 lead at the end of the first quarter and holding a 40-29 advantage at halftime.
Rainier Beach and Franklin won't have to wait long for a rematch. The teams play again on Tuesday in the Metro League tournament. Only the top four teams in the Metro League play for the championship; Beach is the No. 1 seed, Franklin No. 4.
Seattle Prep and Lakeside will play in the other side of the bracket.
